Belle & Sebastian - Electronic Renaissance

These days I'm really into all things tin foil-y,1960s space age-y, and sparkly. Space girl glitter vibes is the way to go, yeah!

I ordered two yards of that silver holographic fabric in photo #5 and I'm gonna make myself a pair of disco pants out of it once it arrives. I can't wait! *o* I also made this nebula ring the other day with some cut-outs from one of my sister's old astronomy catalogs. I don't know why it didn't occur to me sooner that they'd be great for cutting up and turning into jewelery! Looking back on it, I wish I had added glitter to the inside of the ring as well. Everything is better with tons of glitter! Another one of my latest obsessions is this nail polish I'm wearing (it's a Zoya shade...I think it's called Trixie?), it looks just like liquid tin foil in the bottle and goes on just the same. It's by far the best silver nail polish I've ever used. ♥

But I rarely discuss them on here! Which is kind of sad, seeing as they're something that I'm really into, and that's kind of the point of this blog anyway: to discuss random shit that I love.
So today I'm gonna shamelessly plug all of my favorites in this post. I hope that this will come in handy for anyone looking to get their hands on some excellent new reads! Unfortunately, some of these specific zines are no longer available, but I've put underlined links to the authors' blogs 'n stuff so you can see when/if they'll be releasing new ones! ^.^

PLANT MAGAZINE- Created by Isabel (of Hipster Musings), I feel like I might be stating the obvious when I say that this zine is damn good! Issue #1 features brilliant writings by Isabel on subjects ranging from street harassment & the SlutWalk movement, to real girl style, to sexist tea flavors! I received my copy shortly after I had a really upsetting encounter with some asshole while walking home by myself: after getting to read Isabel's story, and being able to relate exactly to how she felt, it made me feel better in a way. Like, I totally snapped out of that weird guilty feeling and realized that there's no reason to be ashamed of how I look/what I wear/being a woman in general, just cuz some random jerk decided to make me his target of abuse. Such a great zine-I can't wait to get my hands on issue 2!

TEENAGE GRRRL ZINE by MEAGAN- I just need to start this off by saying that Meagan is legit one of the coolest people ever. I found out about her blog after seeing a comment she left on Tavi's blog...and I've been leaving slighty fangirlish comments for her ever since. Anyway, about the zine- comparing it to some of my copies of old grrrl fanzines, I feel like her's really echoes the whole aesthetic to a T in an authentic way. It's definitely like a modern day riot grrrl zine, but written by a really cool teen girl. And Meagan, if you're reading this, MAKE MORE ISSUES PLEASE! <3

BUTCH- Created by super-adorable blogger, Roma. This feminist zine includes rad articles, art, and interviews, featuring work by artists such as Grace Miceli and fellow bloggers Hvit and Brittney. Issue 1 also includes a Keith Haring coloring page & a step by step tutorial on how to burn your bra 2 bits! A terrific read for sure.

CULTURE SLUT- A wicked awesome zine by Amber (whom I admire from afar like the creepy internet fangirl that I am), Culture Slut is a mix of feminist musings, lists, zine reviews, and some of the prettiest layouts I've ever seen. *.* I first discovered her zine(s) thru a random etsy search almost two years ago, and I've been a fan ever since!

PAPER DOLL- This one is written by my friend, Clara. One of the things I love most about her zines are the G O R G E O U S cut and paste layouts that she does. They should totally be considered an art form or something. Her writing is also incredibly smart and super fun to read as well! Check her out, y'all.

BIKINI KILL VOL.2 (GIRL POWER!!)- Kick ass zine by the members of Bikini Kill. This one focuses heavily on girl power (hence the title.) There's so much material in it (56 pages in total) that I don't even know where to begin! The entire zine itself is super inspiring and I'm so happy that I was able to finally get my hands on a copy of it.

CAM GIRLS- Sophie's zines always put a huge smile on my face! They usually arrive in the mail with a shiny gold envelope covered in Lisa Frank stickers and confetti. She picks some of the best themes (ex: summertime, webcam outfit pics) and executes these ideas wonderfully through her zines. I really liked this one, because 1: it's personal style-related and 2: it features a lot of my favorite grrrls from the internet! Does this make me weird? (probably.) There's lots of outfit-inspiration in this one.

And here are some new additions to my collection that I just can't get enough of!

First up is this Margot Tenenbaum art zine that was sent to me by Sarah (fashion designer/zinester/all-around-awesome-person.) She makes these really cool, beautifully illustrated comic zines based on different movie characters. This one is dedicated to Margot, and it features her throughout the years & a page all about her wardrobe! How sweet is that?
I also just got these two zines by Midge aka Modern Girl Blitz, in the mail. One of them is from her LOUD MOUTH series, which I'm completely obsessed with right now. I also picked up a copy of riot grrrl revival, which features some of her amazing feminist art work. I absolutely adore both of these and I command all of you to go check them out!

I dyed my hair today! For the first time in almost four years! I've really missed having obnoxiously bright-colored hair.
The poor lighting in my room + this shitty camera of mine has dulled the color out quite a bit, but it's actually a really deep purple-y hot pink (which I guess would technically be magenta? idk.) It looks freakin' amazing in the sunlight, though!

I was going to dye my eyebrows too, but I forgot about it until after I had chucked the last of my dye mix away. T.T Oh well, I guess I'll have to try permanent pink 'brows another time.

Before I start growing my hair out again, I think I'm gonna try dyeing it a more pastel-y shade (to match the bulk of my wardrobe, of course!) I just really like the idea of having a pastel-colored buzz cut for some reason. *.* I'm thinking of going purple or blue, but I can't decide which!

Remember when I kept alluding to being busy with something other than blogging? Well, this is it! I joined the Rookie Magazine staff about a month ago and I've been busy writing DIY tutorials for the site. This is probably one of the coolest (okay, let's face it, THE ONLY COOL THING) I've ever been apart of and I'm just so freakin' ecstatic right now that I have absolutely no idea what to say. So I'll just shut up. But before I do, I just want to let y'all know that this post I made on how to turn a pillowcase into a skirt went up yesterday, and I'm so happy with how it turned out! If you haven't seen it yet, you can check it out here. And if any of you end up using the tutorial, please let me know! I'd really love to see your take on this project.♥

I haven't been this stoked to do some new craft projects in a while! Here are three gems that I've come across in the past month or so that I can't wait to try out.

Mirrored Mosaic Collar from Aetienne
I'm still loving detachable collars, and I've been on the look-out for more ways to embellish them. When I saw this on tumblr I literally went OIUFSJFDSFJKEOMGGG (I'm so articulate when I see shiny objects.) This tutorial from Aetienne shows you how to decorate a collar with broken CDs! How neat is that? I have a feeling that Zenon would totally dig this, too.

Colored Pencil Brooches

My eyes nearly fell out of my head after this popped up on my tumblr dash! I was gonna take a break from making brooches because I've made so many already (and I still have to post that badge tutorial I've been talking about for ages...) But I think I'll make an exception for these! They're just SO GOOD. Now all I need to do is find some hexagonal colored pencils...
DIY Shoe Fringe from The Dainty Squid
Kaylah (of The Dainty Squid) made a super cute and easy tutorial on how to make your own shoe fringe! (similar to the stuff you see on those drool-worthy VW golf shoes *_*) I just thrifted a worse-for-wear pair of brogues, and I think that a little fringe might be all they need to look nice again!

Highlights from xmas day! (aka me bragging about my gifts.)

This radical Lisa Frank (LIGHT-UP!) diary was a gift from my little brother. One of my goals for 2012 is to write in a journal everyday (I haven't kept one up since middle school!) So I hope to start things off right with this one.

Along with that, I got a vintage faux fur coat from my mommy. She knew how badly I wanted a new furry coat, so she got me this. The photo I took with it is weird because you can't really see what it actually looks like. It kinda bells out and it has swing sleeves. It's so cute that my eyes actually turn into hearts every time I see it. ♥.♥

I also got the most squeal-worthy xmas card in the mail from Kailey aka oneofthecoolestbloggerseverthatIamconstantlyinaweof. Yeah, her. Anyway, it has one of her darling Jem themed paper collages on the front, and as if that wasn't amazing enough, it also has a pop-up on the inside. Cute doesn't even begin to describe it! Thank you so much, Kailey!

Another noteworthy present that I got was this doll from my sister. She needs a good scrubbing (especially in the facial region), but isn't she gorgeous? I've actually never seen a doll that has manga-esque detailing like this. And in such vivid colors,too! It looks quite old to me, like it might be from the late '60s-early '70s, perhaps? I dunno. If this style of doll looks familiar to any of you please let me know! I wanna know more about it.

Oh hey guys! Let's just pretend that I haven't been gone for the past two weeks-ish, 'kay? My schedule has been packed with all sorts of different activities and it looks like it'll be that way well into January! This is great cuz I feel like I'm getting stuff done and being super productive, but at the same time it seems like I'm posting on here less and less! Which isn't so great. I'll try to get back into the swing of things in the coming days with some new posts, I promise!

Meanwhile, I thought I'd do a post on what I put on my x-mas wishlist this year (I still can't believe it's only a couple days away!) I was gonna post this waaay back in November, but I never got around to it. So...here it is!

The first thing on my list is a pair of Spank! Moon Dreamer tights. I only put these on here cuz it's a wishlist and I feel like every wishlist needs at least one unattainable item.
(Seriously though, if there's anyone out there who's willing to explain Japanese shopping services to me, or maybe help me order a pair, I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER.)

Have y'all seen the new Lime Crime Carousel Glosses? If so, can we all just take a moment to do a collective fangirl squeal? I feel like this collection deserves it.
Not only is the packaging for this collection freakin' adorable (which is to be expected with LC) but the colors are amazing, too! I've been wanting a true gold lip color for ages now, but it seems like all the ones I have tried so far are either too sheer or too much like a nude shade. This Golden Ticket stuff looks like a winner though!

Next up is that pink fur coat I keep talking about. I feel like the only way I'll be able to survive the brutal winter months ahead is to own at least one coat that looks like it's made out of a pastel pink yeti.

Candy Melange of Starlight Deco Dream makes the coolest jewelery. I love her resin rings especially! I've had my eye on this mint seashell ring for a while now. I think it would look so rad with my Little Mermaid dress! *0*

Rocking Horse Shoes have been on my wishlist ever since I saw them in the Fresh FRUiTS book when I was twelve. They're definitely my ~dream shoes~. But I never considered actually buying them until recently, when I found out that Bodyline is now selling their own version of the famous Vivienne Westwood design for a mere $41! I'm definitely considering getting a pair now.

Moving onto the complete opposite of shoes: books! Or one book to be exact. I've been wanting to read Girls to the Front ever since it came out last year. My stupid local library won't buy it, even though they're in dire need of stuff like this (their current selection of books on feminism and music is virtually non-existent.) So I think I'll just try to snag a copy for myself. I need to build up my own feminist reading library a bit anyway.

And since this post is all about stuff I want for the holidays I figure I'd throw in something I've already received as an early x-mas gift! A couple weeks back I received a mystery package in the mail (seriously, I had no idea where it came from or who sent it) and I was delighted to discover that it was sent by my good blog friend Kaia! She sent over this awesome lilac infinity scarf (with sparkles!) It's the cutest thing ever and I've been wearing it pretty much every day since I got it. Thanks so much, girl!

If the top half of this outfit looks familiar that's because you saw it in my previous post! I forgot I even took pics of my outfit that day, so here I am posting them a week or so later. haha. -.- I've been wearing this silver glitter velvet dress non-stop (almost) ever since I thrifted it back in November. Isn't it absolutely dreamy? I guess that makes up for its $8 price tag, which is way more than what I'd usually pay for a used dress, but OMG GLITTER! *.*

Gah, I can't believe it's December already! I was hoping I'd be around more in November, but a lot of stuff just kind of happened (good and not-so-good.) And I was just in a very non-bloggy mood. But I'm feeling a bit better now and school is almost finished for the holidays so you might see me posting here a little more often than usual! :) I'm currently working on some neat blog-related stuff, which includes making some things for my 1st blog giveaway (ahhh exciting!) and writing a tutorial for those badges in my cut'n'paste post. I made some deco badges today! They're basically just random image clippings and this all-star tag that fell off of my old chucks. I also molded the music note & pastel bars one by hand. I used foam clay, mod podge, and what's left of my patience to do tedious crafts like this to make them. I think I'll put together a how-to thing for'em if anyone is interested! ^.^

This one is my favorite! Nina Hagen + lots of glitter = a perfect combo. ♡

Oh, and I totally lied about that whole not being ready for winter thing...

check out this hat my mom bought for me! (jeez, do I sound like a ten-year-old or what?) I figure if I get to wear this hat everyday for the next couple of months it'll make the gross winter weather much more tolerable. The only problem I have now is that I want a furry pink coat to match! (so I can look like a Care Bear whenever I go out, obviously.)

I can't believe I've gone almost the entire fall without wearing my favorite cat lady sweater! I'll admit that it kinda got lost in my ever-growing collection of odd sweaters. This outfit is from yesterday: it was really sunny and nice out and had I known at the time that it would likely be the last nice day of autumn I would have just taken pictures outside! I woke up this morning to lots of snow and slush and just all-around yuckiness. I'm definitely not ready for winter.

And here's the schmancy eye make up that I had on. It's like a yellow-y, orange-ish, red/purple gradient type thing (I rule at describing stuff.) The horrid lighting in my room washed the colors out quite a bit, unfortunately.

And on a quick, kinda random note: Self-Constructed Freak turned *TWO* last Tuesday! (yeah I know I'm over a week late with this announcement. -_-) I've been thinking of doing a giveaway or something this month in honor of it, but I'm still not sure of what the prize(s) will be. I'll probably end up making something by hand or maybe putting some rad vintage thrift items up for grabs. I dunno, we'll see I guess!

This is supposed to be my ~shocked face~...yeah, I'm not buying it either!

I've been away from this blog for too long! I'll try my best to post a little more this month. I already have some really cool DIY stuff finished that I want to share with y'all! And tons of other ideas for posts.

Anyway, I just thought I'd do a little post on what I went as for Halloween! Initially I wasn't going to dress up or go anywhere, but then my friends convinced me to go trick or treating with them. My last minute (literally) costume choice was Roy Lichtenstein's 'Crying Girl'. My make up was a bit of a rush job, so that should explain why I forgot to dot my neck! Oops. My make up was loosely based off of this:

A couple people said they liked my "Gaga" costume. I really felt like crying after hearing that. @_@

Turns out that hardly anyone was handing out candy this year (lame!) so I ended up coming home early, pigging out on my mom's Halloween cake, and watching Rocky Horror. I still had a lot of fun anyway! ♥

I present you with yet another outfit from days ago (ugh I've been so lazy with updating this blog)! This is what I wore last Sunday to run errands and stuff. While I was perusing the cosmetics at Walgreens this lady came up to me, got right in my face, and went "OOOOH SPOOKY!!!" I just kind of stood there like "uhhh?" I wasn't sure what she was referring to, but my mom who was behind me burst out laughing and said "it must be your outfit!" It always is. -.- I think I was inadvertently channeling my 6-year-old self with this outfit. I recently came across this picture taken when I was around that age, wearing a polka dot skirt, hot pink tights, converse, and a sweater (but it was Tigger, not My Little Pony). I wish I had a scanner so I could show you the picture! It's kinda weird. Maybe I'll end up doing a SCF-bad-outfit-choices-through-the-years post? We'll see, I guess. Hahah!

I've kind of been on a roll with awesome eBay purchases lately. After I found those amaaazing Doc Martens for super cheap, I went and found these vintage Polly Pocket earrings for a dollar and some change! They were shipped from overseas, so it took ~~whatfeltlikeyears~~ a while for them to get here, but they finally landed in my mailbox today and I couldn't be happier! I seriously can't get over how cute they are! ♥.♥

I'm not much of a jewelry wearer, especially not earrings 'cause I don't have my ears pierced, but these are clip-on's and they're in my favorite colors (mint, lilac, pink) so they're pretty much perfect for me.

Naturally, I had to put on a fluffy pastel outfit to go with them!

I'm wearing one of my many pastel knit sweaters (I just thrifted two more for my collection...I need to reign it in a bit.), acid wash jeans that I bought at some store in the mall (they kind of suck but I haven't had any luck finding a good vintage pair!), pink frilly baby socks and my Docs.

I got the idea to do this cuffed pants/ruffle socks combo after looking through the Nachiko tag on the Spank! tumblr. Leave it to the Spank! girls to convince me that something I once thought was totally nerdy (cuffed pants) is now wearable. @.@

diy googly eye skull collar/Rodarte for Target dress/pleated chiffon skirt (thrift)/hand-me-down mary jane shoes

I put on my best '90s witch outfit today, fully equipped with this leopard lace dress (not exactly witchy but whatevz), mary jane heels, and my nifty little googly eye collar (for extra added spookiness.) I thrifted this ah-maaaazing pleated chiffon skirt a couple weekends ago. I had this exact type of skirt on my fall clothing wishlist and I totally wasn't expecting to find it on my first thrift shopping trip of the season, but I did and I've been wearing it on an almost daily basis ever since. It's so floofy and twirly and I like to spin around like an idiot when I'm wearing it. For example:

Oh, and I just thought I'd mention this little tutorial I did for ROOKIE this week. It's no big deal or anything (actually, it is. I'm still doing fangirl squeals over here!) This outfit is from last Sunday (gosh, I'm already way behind on posts!) when I put on my grunge grrrl best to go study at the library. You better believe I got all sorts of dirty looks from all the little old ladies that seem to congregate there after church or whatever. It was quite amusing!

Please ignore my freakishly vein-y hand and check out my CATTOO! (see what I did there? cat + tattoo? I am so lame.) You can also see the *gaaawjuss* embossed rose pattern that this dress has a little better here. It's pretty neat.

Soooo it's been a while, huh? I kind of decided to take a little blog break towards the end of September just cuz I had SO MUCH stuff to do. Between school work and work work and working on some really cool super-secret projects (that you'll see in the coming days!) I didn't really have much time for anything else! My work load has lightened considerably though. And I don't plan on abandoning this blog again. At least not this month! :)

About the photos, they're really just a random mix of things that are relevant to my current interests/obsessions: holographic stickers, Barbie shoes, My Little Pony, Robert Smith. You know the usual. The last two photos are mine; the first is this vintage MLP sweater that I thrifted for $2 the other day (it came with matching leggings too!) and my Grace Miceli coloring book that came in the mail this morning. I love getting snail mail, especially the heavily stickered kind. ^.^

Outfit from yesterday. It seems I can't get anything done on time this week (including blogging, haha!) I've been wanting to put together an outfit based around this sweater since I bought it late last spring and yesterday's freezing cold weather was a good enough excuse for me to do it!

A quick rundown on what I'm wearing: baby cardigan (I'm pretty sure this thing was meant for a toddler, it just barely fits me!), diamond lace t-shirt, thrifted skirt (hem hacked into scallops by moi), TWO pairs of target tights (I still froze while waiting for the bus, but yay! it's finally layering weather), and my old knock-off Docs.

I've been listening to a lot of Blondie this week. Eat to the Beat has been keeping me sane through this crazy amount of school work that I'm stuck with!

When my mom saw me earlier today she thought I had shaved my eyebrows off (something I've actually wanted to do for a while now...) I reassured her that I just painted over them. She still didn't believe me though. It wasn't until I took all the pink eye pencil off, then she was like "ohh, I knew you wouldn't actually do it!" Yeah, okay mom. -___-

I honestly think the no 'brows look is cute. Just take 6% DOKIDOKI shop girl Vani for example (she does hers in glitter!) She makes me not want real eyebrows anymore.

The last thing I should be doing right now is taking outfit photos & blogging, but I really don't feel like messing with this huge pile of work I have to do. And I feel like this t-shirt-as-skirt situation that I wore today is worth documenting.

Putting on my best bitch face to counteract the cutesy-ness of this outfit (haha,no.)

I'm wearing head-to-toe thrift, except for my shoes (eBay) and my socks (target?). My skirt is actually a pajama top that I thrifted some time last year. I never got around to wearing it cuz it's pretty big (I've had it in my to-fix clothing pile for months!) But it works quite well as a skirt. I think I might just turn it into one permanently.

I got this hair bow from Kaia a while back. I never got the chance to wear it when I still had hair (whaaa T_T), but it's too pretty to just leave laying around in my jewelery box! So until I can wear barrettes again its gonna stay clipped to my vest. :)

RIP SUMMER. I won't really miss you, at least not until the blizzards start coming in full force and there are snow drifts that are taller than me outside, then I will most likely be crying and begging for you to come back. But until then I am quite happy with this wonderful fall-like weather we've been having. I even had to put a sweater on when I left the house this morning!

This is what I wore today for my last day of summer vacay. We had a picnic and I went for a hike in the woods with my little brother. I figure I have to make up for some of the time I spent lazing around the house doing absolutely nothing during my break...(I'm surprised I even tanned a bit, I rarely left the house! :X)
My main goal with this outfit was to blind everyone I came across. I think it was successful!
I wanted my t-shirt to look a little less, er, like a t-shirt? So I just took a pair of my old bow barrettes (that I can sadly no longer wear T_T) and cinched the sleeves with them. Voilà~now my t-shirt looks super fancy (if your definition of fancy is neon jersey knit with big hunks of plastic sticking to it, then yeah.)

I think it's funny how my most unimaginative outfits get all the compliments. I went out to do some shopping for my mom today and had everyone and their great-grandmother saying they loved my outfit. Which was really nice of them to say, but the entire time I'm thinking "I could easily pass for a boring mall punk/Hot Topic employee in this getup." Maybe they see something I don't? haha.

I got this super awesome Daria female symbol patch in the mail yesterday from Kristen. I can't wait to stick it on the back of my new vest! It's gonna look so rad. :D

And speaking of rad feminist stuff,
my good blogfriend Isabel (Hipster Musings?) is currently in the running to win funding to go towards her dream of starting a feminist fashion magazine (a project that DEFINITELY needs to happen). I kind of just threw this outfit together this morning as an excuse to wear some of my newest thrift finds: this lace t-shirt ( kind of American Apparel-esque, don't you think?) that I got for a dollar (!) and this plastic gemstone kiddie belt. The belt kinda reminds me of those cheesy plastic accessories that came with Pretty Pretty Princess . Does anyone else remember being obsessed with this game when they were little? or was it just me?

♡ candyfuture: lime crime lipstick review ♡

Waaay back in April/May Lime Crime sent me some products to try out. At the time I asked if anyone wanted a review, a couple of you said 'yes' and then I completely forgot about it (until a couple days ago when I saw the original post again.) So I figured I would just type one up now. Better late than never, eh? Hopefully some of you are still interested! Okay, on to the review!~

I guess I'll start off by saying that Lime Crime has the best packaging ever! The lipstick comes in adorable little purple boxes & tubes that are covered in SPARKLY UNICORNS! It's terrible, I know, but I would totally just buy the lipstick for the packaging.

And here's what they look like on the lips (straight out of the tube, no primer or anything):

A bright taxi cab-like yellow. Not the most flattering color (according to some) but then again who gives a crap about flattering? I know I don't. I think it looks rad by itself but you can also use it as a base to mix all kinds of different shades (lime green, orange). I just found out that this color is no longer available on the LC website but they have it for sale over at Shanalogic.Mint to Be...
A pretty pastel mint color. It's pretty obvious that this one is my favorite!
I'm kind of sad that it's a limited edition color (only available through this Fall!) because I would love to have a lifetime supply of it.Coquette...
A pastel peach color. This is the one I was least excited about but that I came to love over time. I've actually never come across a nude lipstick shade that didn't make me look dead so I'm super impressed with this one!

All in all I find these lipsticks to be all-around awesome.
The pigmentation is incredible, you don't need to put layers and layers of lipstick on to get the color that's in the tube. They go on smooth and don't streak or fade too quickly. Despite being matte they have a nice creamy texture to them and they're not super drying to the lips. They're also vegan and NOT tested on animals. What more could you want?!

It's been kinda quiet over here lately! haha. I spent most of this week feeling like crap (I can thank my obnoxious wisdom teeth for that), which I guess lead to me not really posting at all this week. :\ I'll get back to my regular (or irregular?) posting as soon as my face stops looking all swollen and gross.

I promised I would do this tutorial ages ago but I completely forgot about it until recently (sorry! >.<) I hope you all like it! This is what I wore to go thrift store sheet shopping (my equivalent of fabric shopping) over the weekend. This outfit was a hit with the old ladies down at my favorite thrift shop, but not so much with the random guy who threw a half empty bottle of Mountain Dew out his car window at me. I guess he just doesn't like Care Bears or something? -.-
I only wore my old high-tops on this day for practical purposes (and to fit the Ramones theme), but lately I've been thinking of how rad it would be if they had some funky platform soles. I have a feeling I'd wear mine a lot more often if they looked a little something like this: Yep, these are definitely next up on my DIY to-do list! ♡

Why is it that I'm only now getting motivated to do fun DIY stuff when there's less than a month left until school starts back up again? -_- I've decided that I'm just going to cram as much crafting as I can into the month of August so I don't feel like I've completely wasted my summer doing nothing.

One project that I've been meaning to do forever is to revamp some of my old shoes. I started with these creepers (my only pair, mind you) that I've had for 4+ years. They're falling apart and I plan on getting a new pair soon but I don't want to throw them away just yet. So I took some fuzzy leopard fabric scraps that I had left over from another project and I glued/sewed them onto the tongue of the shoe. It actually worked out better than I thought it would and now I have the leopard creepers that I've always wanted! ^.^My next project was to cover my fake DMs in glitter. I used gold NYX cosmetic glitter with glow-in-the-dark paint as a base. So now my boots sparkle during the day and glow at night! haha. They look really pretty in natural daylight but not so much with my camera flash. -.-

I wanted to wear something fancy to run boring errands (school supply shopping, etc.) It seems like I've only worn mom shorts all summer, which is cool, but I wanted to switch things up a bit today so I wore my bloomers instead! I'm also wearing this pretty pastel top that I got from Rad Breath. You guys'n'gals should go visit their shop and give them all your money because they'll send you wicked awesome things in return, okay? 0.~

I've discovered yet another tumblr dedicated to old skool FRUiTS (YES!!) and I've been feeling majorly inspired by it! These photos make me want to break out my plaid skirt and combat boots and stripey socks and just parade myself around like it's Harajuku circa 1997. Even though the sad truth is that it's 2011 and I'm stuck in Wisconsin. OH WELL ._. The third look is definitely going to be my main Fall fashion inspiration--plaid skirt, clunky boots, just add tights! Oh, and I am seriously considering buying a cowboy-style hat to go with it. I went garage sale-ing today. I thought that maybe a little shopping would help get me out of this funk I've been in. I really didn't expect to find anything decent, seeing as I haven't had the best luck with rifling through random people's junk in the past, but today was definitely a win!
Two garage sales and $5 later, this is all the new material I have to work with.

The first thing I found was this set of ridiculous (and by ridiculous I mean so totally awesome) clip-on earrings. I also got this supercute seashell pin.

My next find was this 1950's slip dress (in mint condition) for $2! I was surprised that the lady was charging so little for it. It has really nice detailing and these gorgeous accordion pleats on the skirt and bodice. I'm kind of afraid to wear it, because knowing me, I'll probably end up spilling tea on it or something. -.-

I also nabbed myself some vintage tights! Er, well, I dunno about the harlequin pattern ones, but I know that the sheer bow print ones are from the 1960's. I got'em both for a dollar (score!).

This delightfully tacky (and possibly seizure-inducing) video from Nina Hagen is my inspiration for today. Even if you're not a big fan of her music, all of the wicked awesome outfits she wears in the video are a good enough reason to watch.
In it you'll see her donning a gold tinsel wig, a silver spacesuit-esque outfit, and even a classy evening dress or two, with a feather boa thrown in for good measure.My favorite outfit from the video kicks in around 3:05 . It's almost impossible to see with the trippy camera work, but it looks to me like she's wearing a splatter painted bustier, neon floral skirt with a polka dotted belt, and these rad hot pink windowpane fishnets. SO DREAMY! And totally something I'd wear.

Hopefully this feeling will go away once it stops being 500 degrees out everyday. I can't wait for fall!

I'm supposed to share 7 random facts about myself, but I've already done so many of those. How many random facts can one person have about themselves? haha.
So instead I'm going to do 5 random facts about my blog! Or just blogging in general. Here they are:

1. This is actually my third-ish blog (third time's the charm?). I have been blogging on and off since '07 and I never really felt at home with any of them. I kind of knew this one was going to be special right from the start (even if my very first posts were painfully awkward...) So I just stuck with it.

2. The original name for this blog was going to be 'Look a Mess' (a shortened version of the Damned song lyrics) but I later decided on 'Self-Constructed Freak' after seeing this Bowie video. I was kind of obsessed with him when I started this blog.

3. I've managed to keep this blog a secret from my IRL friends/family (if my older siblings found out I would never hear the end of it!). This makes for really awkward moments, like when people catch me taking outfit photos and they give me the "wtf are you even doing?" look. Or when something really neat happens, like when a certain person you admire acknowledges you/your blog's existence and you have to secretly celebrate all by yourself. :P

4. I always feel a bit weird when people refer to my blog as being a 'fashion blog'. I guess I feel like I don't fit into that category at all. Even if I do post the occasional runway recap, or do outfit posts, I still don't really see myself as being fashionable or trendy in any way, shape, or form. And I guess those are the two things that I attribute to fashion blogging. But then again, I think everyone has their own definition on what it is, so whatever.

5. I probably wouldn't have started a personal style blog had it not been for people like Kylie, Isabel, and Tavi. They were the first style blogs that I ever read! And they really inspired me to put myself out there and share my wacky taste in clothing with the rest of the blogosphere.

And now, after typing all this out, I realize why people like to do these things in video form--it's less boring that way!! Oh well, maybe next time? 0.~

What you're looking at here is my very first attempt at space dyeing some fabric. I got inspired to try this out after stumbling across this blog.
I'm kind of annoyed at myself for only getting one picture before cutting the fabric up for a project that I'm working on (sorry guys). But aside from that and my pathetic looking stars (I was only halfway finished painting them on when this photo was taken) I'm quite pleased with how it turned out! I think I'm gonna re-attempt this with a pair of leggings or maybe even a t-shirt dress! ^.^

I've finally made it to my 200th post! yippeee yay! It only took me nearly two years of blogging to get here. I really need to get better at updating! -_-

It was also my 18th birthday yesterday. I'M LEGAL NAO GUIZE! And uhh yeah. Is it weird that I really have nothing else to say on the matter? I guess I just didn't view this birthday as any different from all the others. Even though I did get some pretty cool stuff and had the cutest cake ever! (it was a pastel-colored animal cracker merry-go-round, just in case you were wondering.)

You know this wouldn't be an official birthday post without at least one tacky Barbie greeting card.

Some of the pretty things that I received. I'm kind of shocked at how well my family gets my taste in clothing/books sometimes. I have a feeling I'll be wearing that lipstick print tutu with my modernity hair bow soon enough. I love matchy-matchy things like that.

Finally, an outfit not consisting of just shorts and a t-shirt! Even I'm a little impressed with myself and my lame efforts at layering. It probably wasn't such a great idea to wear an angora sweater top in the middle of July, but I'm kind of desperate alright!?

This big hunk of plastic on my finger was an early b-day gift from my best friend. She knew I'd love it because it's "bright pink and obnoxious looking." And I probably mentioned wanting to start a ring collection to her about a gazillion times in the past week. I'm never gonna take it off! *.*

And a better shot of my pretty, pointy-toed bow flats. The Thrift Gods were definitely watching over me when I found these. Only $1 and they fit like a glove!

I was helping my mom clean out our storage room the other day when I came across this suitcase full of old clothes. She told me that it wasn't worth sorting through but I did anyway and look what I found! One supercute floral crop top, circa late 1980s?. I'm pretty sure I had hearts for eyes upon finding it. And the good news is that my sister doesn't want it anymore so it's mine to keep. I love having older siblings to steal clothes from. ^.^ I just couldn't resist wearing it in an outfit to match (note the highwaisted shorts + reeboks).

Even though I've been wanting to make a new post for the past week, and I have about a million and one ideas for things I want to post about, I always just end up watching episodes of NANA and stuffing my face with gummy bears instead. I should be in the running for the Worst Blogger Ever award, right?

Anywhoo, I guess we should discuss this little outfit that I wore today. The Barbie t-shirt (one of my most prized possessions) is something that I haven't worn in ages and I felt like it was time to bring it back out again. The shorts I'm wearing were originally gigantic floral old lady capris I got for 10 cents at a local thrift shop. I had to alter them quite a bit so they would fit, but I love how they turned out. Oh, and they have pockets! Like ones that you can actually put stuff in, not like those fake pockets that are usually in shorts you buy at the mall. What's not to love?!

Naturally, I had to use the left over scraps from hacking up those capris to make Joy Division/Ian Curtis patches for this vest I'm currently working on (in my head). I think the Unknown Pleasures album artwork looks amazing over pastel floral print.

I'm still feeling the ~mermaid vibes~ from the last inspiration post that I did. Only this time I'm doing it with pastels instead of neons. I got sick of wearing my Ariel dress as a dress (shocking,right?), so today I folded the bodice down and wore it as a skirt instead. Why can't all of my clothes be this easily versatile? -.-
And now I'm kind of wishing that I had some Kylie-esque mermaid nails to complete the look. This girl really is the queen of nail art! Bow down, people ;)

AHHH HELLO THERE! I finally got my stupid computer working again *yay!* So I just wanted to pop in here and do a quick post to keep this little blog of mine alive. I hate going days on end without updating! >.<

My outfit from the other day, featuring this wicked awesome top that Holly sent to me (thanks a ton,girl!) I feel like I should be wearing it with some ridiculous platform shoes and disco pants, but my wardrobe is lame and doesn't include either of those things *siiiigh*. So I ended up wearing it with my pin dot skirt, moto vest, and spiderweb tights instead. Definitely not as funky as my dream outfit, but it'll have to do! ;)

Summer is finally here!

I've been spending these first few days of my summer break going on massive thrift hunts with my sister, sewing up a storm (because now I actually have time to sew! yay!), and eating my weight in fudge bars.

Today's outfit featured one of my latest thrift finds: this obnoxiously bright neon tie dye t-shirt. I'm kind of in love with it! ^.^

Unfortunately, I think posting around here will continue to be scarce until my new lap top battery arrives (I'm using my older brother's computer right now..)

This new obsession that I have with dolly-kei/cult party clothing styles has made me want to run around in tons of random chiffon-y layers while covered in severed Barbie doll heads and pom poms.
Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like total dream outfit material?

The last time I went thrifting I actually shopped for everything with this particular style in mind. I ended up coming home with a bunch of lace and old lady nightgown/dress things. I'm still not quite sure of how I'm going to make a nightgown look presentable in public, but I'll worry about that later.

Hellooo everyone! Sorry about my week-ish long absence >.< I was sick with some sort of flu thing and I could hardly get myself out of bed! But I'm feeling much better now and can actually get some posts up on the blog!

While I was sick all I did was sit around and obsessively sew patches to things. This top is the end result of all that sewing! (my hands still hurt like a bitch, though.) Seeing as I'll probably never own a genuine Spank! top I figured I would just make my own. This one was inspired by the kickass collage tops that the Spank! girls come up with for their shop(s).

Just a quick post to show you all today's outfit.
This probably would have been my Easter outfit if I hadn't been sick the entire weekend. I guess I'm making up for it today?! But, then again, who am I kidding? I like to wear 'pastel vomit' (as one of my friends likes to call it) outfits all year round.

Oh, and I also want to give a big shout-out to the super nice people at Lime Crime makeup! They were kind enough to send over a few lipsticks for me to try out.
I wore Mint To Be out today for the first time and loved it ^.^ I kept getting asked why I was wearing green concealer on my lips,though. Some people just don't get it -_-

I got inspired to make a decoupage bib necklace after seeing the one Annie Spandex posted about a while back (she always thinks of the best DIYs!). To switch things up a bit I made mine with some of Keith Haring's dancing people instead of a necklace graphic. And as a finishing touch I attacked the front of it with holographic glitter paint (it doesn't show up in the photos though >:\)

I wore it with my thrift store cardigan/t-shirt & self-made skirt.

I love how the colors used in the illustration ended up matching my heart t-shirt perfectly!

My sock/shoe situation was the usual (aka super boring) I wore my t-strap heels + white ankle socks.

Also thought I'd mention that I wore all these bright colors today just for Poly! ♥ R.I.P

Poly Styrene, a punk rock & feminist icon, passed away yesterday at the age of 53. She was a huge inspiration to me (and many others), paving the way for riot grrrls everywhere. I'll never forget the first time I heard 'Germ Free Adolescents', it was truly magical. You'll be greatly missed, Poly!

STENCILS!

I've had quite a few people ask me how I make my stenciled t-shirts and stuff, so I figured I would do a post dedicated to it! Before we begin I'm going to link you guys to this site: Stencilry.org

They have a list of tutorials and guides on how to make, cut out, and use stencils. The only thing I'm going to show you here is my own (probably more complicated than it needs to be) way of enlarging a regular sized stencil to get that oversized graphic effect.

Start off by finding the photo you want to turn into a stencil, fix the color to black and white in an image editing program (I use Gimp), and then use the threshold tool to get a basic outline.

You should now have something that looks like this. The image I'm going to use for the stencil is on the left, the original version without any tweaks is on the right. See the difference?

After fixing the photo I upload it to blockposters--I only use this site because the poster print option on my printer doesn't work, if yours does then just use that. I usually enlarge it to 2 portrait pages wide.

After printing it out you should have 4 pages that look like this:

And after assembling it (with a little help from some scissors and a glue stick) it should look like this:

And there you have it! One extra-large Siouxsie stencil. Pretty cool, huh? The last thing you're gonna need to do is attack it with an x-acto knife! Again, refer to the stencilery guide (they explain it 100x better than I'll ever be able to!)

And just in case any of you were curious as to how mine turned out..

I wish I had more to post about today. I wasn't in a crafty/dress-up mood at all this week until I went and did some thrift shoppin'. I was lucky enough to find some really neat stuff this time around.

Not everything I got, just my favorites: a giant yellow & black polka dot skirt,faux leather moto vest, Luella skirt, and some vintage Micky & Minnie fabric!

Seeing as I've got some new material to work with, I think it would be safe to say that I'll be getting back into the swing of things very soon!

Just a quick post to show you guys yesterday's outfit.

I was going for Jeremy Scott F/W'11 vibes with this look. I did the makeup from my head, so it's not perfect, but close enough I think. And seeing as I didn't have any super cool pill print cardigans or furry platforms to wear with it, I opted for my dayglo orange shift dress and checkered tights instead. I still wish I had those furry platform heels,though! *sob*

I wish I could do my make-up like this everyday! *o*

I'm thinking of trying out all the other variations of this look from the show,too. Shocking red+blue eyes are next on my to-do list!

Proof that I didn't spend my entire spring break doing absolutely nothing!

Here are a couple projects that I completed over my break. Nothing too spectacular, just the usual. I'm gonna start the post off with this oversize Banshees patch.

I'm so proud of it! (even though my printer did all the work..) The photo was too large for one page so I had to print it out on two different sheets and stick it together with tacky glue. I'm still not sure what I'm going to use it for,though. TO BE CONTINUED?!...

I started this Hole t-shirt months ago & never got around to finishing it (I ran out of paint >.>). I'm not too happy about the t-shirt I used, though. The tie dye is marvelous but the tee itself is waaaay too big. I'm currently trying to think of a clever way to fix the over all shapelessness of it.

And finally,some skirts 'n shorts 'n stuff.

I made the leopard skirt out of a remnant that I picked up at a craft store. I know it just looks like a rectangle of fabric but I promise it's a skirt. The shorts were made from a maternity top that I got for ten cents at a thrift store. The fabric has this rad '80s pixel print all over it. I also added some buttons to the yoke for a nautical/sailor effect.

And yes, I would have modeled all this just for you lot but I'm lazy. And this stuff will probably end up in an outfit post eventually anyway, so whatever.

And because I feel like this is sort of on the same topic...

I just wanted to send a belated OHMYGOSH THANKYOOOOU! to everyone who commented on my webshop should I/should I not? post a while back. I totally wasn't expecting to hear such positive feedback! And I'm beyond thrilled to know that I have supporters :)

I've already come up with some design ideas and potential names for the shop. I still haven't really made up my mind about when I'm going to start this little project, though. Probably sometime this summer? We'll just have to wait and see I guess. I'll be sure to keep you all updated!

Today's outfit, featuring my most prized possession,the Barbie sweater!

Instead of wearing it with some sort of ~*supakawaiiSpank!gurlz~* outfit,like I was going to, I decided to mix things up a bit and pair it with my black velvet skirt. Now I just look like a Spank girl trying to go goth. I actually kind of like it.

Though, I can't say the same for the three different people who decided to inform me that it wasn't Halloween (referring to my eye make-up, I think). I mean, really? is that all you got?! Insult the sweater and then maybe I'll cry.

These clunky mary jane heels are my favorite shoes right now. My sister wore'em in the '90s..they held up pretty well!

And this is the first time in forever that I've done my make-up all fancy-like. Now that I don't have a thick layer of bangs obscuring my eyes I think I'm going to do this sort of thing more often! I don't mind looking like a clown.

I'll be the first to admit that today's outfit was a bit formulaic. I tend to gravitate towards my weird dresses & frill socks when I can't think of anything else! But..my new t-shirt freshened things up a bit, I think.
The t-shirt is from a project that Kaiami started a couple weeks ago. She's printing these shirts by hand & selling them, with the proceeds going towards Japan relief efforts. How cool is that? I didn't realize until now that today's outfit was slightly reminiscent of 90's Barbie doll outfits. I love it when things like that happen by accident! Tacky Barbie outfits are the best.

I bought this disgustingly bright tie dye skirt/dress thing over the weekend. I think it's actually supposed to be a swimsuit cover up or something. But, whatever! I'm wearin' it as a skirt anyway. It's also reversible (there's polka dots on the other side) how genius is that?

Pretty detail shots: I kind of forgot just how great regular old black fishnet tights are, the print on my crop top that I don't wear nearly as much as I should, and the underside to my skirt--polka dots!

Aaaand finally, the soundtrack to my week thus far. It's crazy how you can find legit bands in crappy Disney movies *cough Wish Upon a Star cough*.

I hope you all don't mind me doing a little make-up devoted post. I just wanted to show off this lovely mint green lipstick I got in the mail today (today meaning yesterday?..)

Anywho, you guys probably already know how much I L O V E weird lip colors. I usually wear bright red and magenta on a day-to-day basis, but lavender and black are my favorites to wear when I get sick of all the pink.

New lipstick, yesss!

I found this stuff on eBay while I was searching for something non-cosmetic related (weird,right?) and it was only a couple bucks. It also came with matching nail polish (!) and I'm a sucker for cutesy pairings like that so I bought it on the spot.

It looks pretty in the tube but on the lips its a bit too pastel for me. I like the consistency though and for a cheap lipstick it's not that bad quality wise. It's also made in the USA, so I'm guessing I'm less likely to die of lead poisoning or whatever. Yay for that! Still, I think I'm gonna start saving my pennies so I can get my hands on the new Lime Crime one *.*

Seeing as I was a bit disappointed with the color pay off (which was really no surprise) I thought of other ways I could get more use out of it. I mixed it with my black and blue lipsticks to make create some pastel shades.

I'm definitely gonna do this gray lipstick thing more often! I love it ♥

I'm sure you're all sick of the lipstick topic by now, so lets move onto discussing this top I just got from the reject bin at my local thrift. My sister has dubbed it the ugliest top in existence and I'm not gonna argue! I can't tell which is worse, the dingy pastel colors it's comprised of, the hemp rick rack trim, or the fact that it has doleman sleeves on top of all that. I love it to bits though. And to think that I got it for just a dollar, lucky me! ;)

I seem to be getting that a lot ever since I hacked all my hair off last weekend. At the time I was kind of hoping it would turn out Soo Catwoman-esque. But my hair, being as stubborn as it is, had other plans. Seeing as it refused to be stuck up at unnatural angles for long periods of time I eventually gave up on the cat ears part and just went with the buzzed look. I quite like it! I think I'm gonna dye it some obnoxious color to make it look even weirder. I can't decide between atomic turquoise or lavender, maybe I should do both? It's been ages since I've dyed my hair a wacky color so this should be exciting ^o^

Hello all! Long time no post. I finally found the necessary equipment to my camera that mysteriously went missing (it was in my mom's purse of all places!).
These pictures are actually from Friday, I had a pretty gloomy week, so I decided to wear a whole bunch of bright colors to celebrate the end of it! I think the last time I wore a polo shirt was sometime in the 3rd grade. I used to hate them but now I'm stealing them from my sister, haha!

This Mickey Mouse comic strip t-shirt is something I bought years ago, mainly because I love comic print anything, but I never wear it cuz it's too big. I really like it as a skirt though! I'm thinking of just permanently turning it into one. I would probably get more wear out of it that way...

Howdy guys~This is obviously not one of those what-I-wore-today posts, because the temperatures out are still hypothermia inducing. I want spring, dammit! Winter needs to GTFO.
I was just in the middle of doing some clothing recons (these shorts + top being the items that needed fixing up) when I decided to take some pictures for fun..
with my legs conveniently chopped off because I wasn't wearing shoes and I'm sure nobody wants to see my ugly feet.
This frilly sleeve crop top is a design that I'm thinking of selling. I'm not too sure when or if I'll ever open up a blog shop though. I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy anything from me!

This lady (who is a total genius btw) has taken three of my favorite things: '60's silhouettes, fur, pastels, and stuck them all together to create this insanely amazing collection. Everything about this is perfect, right down to those gold & lilac heels (which I would totally kill for if I had to). But I'd have to say the Muppet-esque fur coats were my most favorite part of this collection. Who wouldn't want to wear one of those?!

My Saturday has been going great so far! I've spent most of the day working on my zine & I also got some really neat-o stuff in the mail this morning. These two Lisa Frank t-shirts being one of those things.

They have her old-skool designs printed on them, so it's kinda obvious why I just had to buy them! I couldn't wait to wear one so I made up an outfit to go along with the wonderful rainbow vomit theme.

I love everything about this collection! The plastic skirts/jackets, lightning bolt dresses, pill prints, and those furry platforms! TOO GOOD. Before I even had the chance to read more about his inspiration for the collection (which you can read more about here) I immediately thought of the 90's. With all the plastic and neon colors and faux fur being reminiscent of stuff I loved as a young'un. Continuing on with the 90's vibes, did anyone else immediately think of Nickelodeon after seeing the slime sweater? Or maybe that's just me being a dork...

Ugggh, these furry platforms are just..I have no words.

I really loved the hair/make-up for this show,too. The super high Manic Panic-ed Baby Spice pigtails & mis-matching neon eye shadow combo was terrific!

I only encountered one person today who thought this was funny. Blah, people around here are so dull!

It was a balmy 17 degrees today! (compared to the mostly single digit weather we've been having). So obviously that means that it's time to break out the bloomer shorts!

I was originally going to wear this outfit with some white pearlized kitten heels I just bought but then I remembered that it's winter & I had places to walk to >_< So wearing my clunky fake Docs was kind of necessary.

DETAILS.

I love this sweater SO much! It's not much of a sweater anymore though. I had to chop the sleeves off because they were waaay too big. I have a feeling it was someones reject knitting project that they just donated. Well, whatever, the sleeves are now in the process of being turned into a pair of leggings.

I made the bow tie belt on a whim the other day out of some lilac jersey knit that I tie-dyed, I really like how it turned out!

Typical Sunday outfit laziness.
I would have done this post yesterday but I was much too tired from staying up until 4 AM the night before.

Anyway, I don't think my Clarissa t-shirt has made its debut on the blog yet! I got it on sale awhile back for a much more reasonable price than the original ($6 instead of $21). Along with staying in all weekend, eating my weight in tootsie pops and watching Inkigayo, I also managed to get started on drafting some new patterns for my spring wardrobe! I know it's not even February yet but I like to get a jump start on things. Hopefully, I'll actually make some progress with my sewing projects this month!

Today's outfit was painfully basic. I had a lot of running around to do so I didn't really feel like getting all fancy with layering and whatnot. I did get to (finally) show off my newly sealed Siouxsie patch though.

The back of my blazer is Siouxsie's temporary home. I think I'm going to stick her on the back of my moto jacket once I'm finished making it...

And because I promised I'd share my secret with you all~

This is what I've been using to seal my patches:

Glow-in-the-Dark & glitter fabric paint! It's non-toxic (unlike some of the other things I was thinking of using), GLOWS AND GLITTERS, and with two coats of it on the front and back of the patch it completely waterproofs it! I ran mine under some running water after it dried and there wasn't any fading or running ink.

I highly suggest using a really big paintbrush and working fast. If you run on the patch a lot with the paintbrush it will start smearing. Also, be sure to let each coat dry before adding the next. Sounds like fun,right? Go try it!

I've spent most of the day sitting in my room, reading Style Deficit Disorder for the zillionth time, drinking lots and lots of tea, and listening to Shonen Knife. I did manage to take a walk outside to check the mail,where these amazing little glasses were waiting for me.

GAAAAH I'm in complete and total love with them. Everyone keeps telling me how gross they look gross though :\ I still think they're the best $3 I've ever spent.

Today's outfit is obnoxious colors galore! January is always a terrible month for me, so I was hoping that wearing something bright would put me in a better mood. I think it worked ;)
I bought this super fuzzy sweater top months ago and never really got around to including it into an outfit. Is it weird that I bought it because it reminds me of something Eline might wear? @_@ She could probably style it 100x better though!
Another thing I've been doing a lot lately is wearing all my baggy patterned t-shirts as skirts. It seems like every skirt I own is plaid, so this trick really comes in handy!

Yes, those ARE glittery half-naked cowboys on my sweater. NO BIG DEAL.
I think I've finally figured out a way to seal my printer patches. I'll do a post on it later! :)

Oh, and I just thought I'd mention, I took a peek at my followers count today and saw that I've reached a little over one hundred! I remember last year around this time I got my very first follower and was freaking out over that. And now there's a hundred of you? How crazy is that? Thanks so much everyone! I love you all~♥

After months (ok, make that years actually) of whining about how much I want one of these ~moto-jackets~ I've decided to take the plunge and just make one myself. I already know that everyone and their great grandmother owns one of these, and that they're being sold at places like Wal-mart or whatever but I really don't care! I've been dying for one ever since I bought my first Ramones record at age 12 and thought they were the coolest people on the face of the planet and I wanted to look just like them. I'd really rather not remember my creepy tween infatuations but these jackets just have to remind me every time. -___-

SO ANYWAYS,

I'm already in the process of making a pattern & shopping around for all the supplies that I'm gonna need. I'm still not sure what type of fabric I want to use: super shiny lilac crinkle stuff that costs more per yard than I would like it to OR some stuff that I have laying around in my stash that will do, but isn't as flashy.

Happy 1/1/11 everyone! (or New Year, whatever floats yer boat.) This is what I wore yesterday for NYE. I still like to get all dressed up even if I don't really have anywhere to go. . .

The vest was another x-mas present from my mom. It has bear shaped buttons and hearts and it's sweater knit and I kind of died when I opened it.

And my new favorite shoes! I think I say that about every pair of shoes that I buy but I mean it this time! I got'em on sale for a buck at the thrift store ^.^

I think they're a good alternative for when I don't feel like wearing my creepers.

In an attempt to come out of this post-holiday fog I've been in I decided to wake up at a halfway decent hour, get dressed and actually leave the house!..to go to the library. Not the most exciting thing to do on a Wednesday but at least I got out of the house!

I think the best way to describe today's outfit would be Crazy Cat Lady Goth Jams...with a Clarissa Darling twist? I have a feeling she would approve of my use of florals & dots.

I was gonna do a fancy holiday themed post but decided against it because I'm just too darn lazy. Oh and it's kinda late for that now, isn't it?

Anyhoo, I figure a little show and tell can help make up for it?

She got me this 1960s SAKS FIFTH FREAKIN' AVENUE highlighter orange shift dress with matching jacket & some vintage dayglo paisley print fabric. The dress and jacket together weigh more than I do! Or at least it feels that way, the fabric it's made of is so heavy! My brother doesn't think that I'll actually wear the dress out. Is he crazy? Of course I'm gonna wear it, I mean, how could I NOT?

POINT OF FASHUNZ: trying not to look like a complete tool in these studded suspenders.

I've been so busy with school and planning x-mas gifts that I spent much of the past week and a half in just skinny jeans and sweaters--BORING! So today I decided to put a little more effort into my outfit and this is what I came up with. I picked up the sweater on my last trip to the thrift store. My wardrobe was in dire need of a nice pink sweater and this one is just perfect! Along with the sweater, I also got some of this crazy pastel rainbow gauze-like fabric that I have no clue what to do with. It's nice to look at though!

I'm really not looking forward to tomorrow. I still have a bit of x-mas present shopping to do and I need to get supplies for the presents I'm going to make. Oh and then I have to actually start making them. I'm gonna be busy busy busy these next few days!

I think the only way I can get stoked on this whole winter weather thing is to have my faux fur coat with me at all times...even in the house (it's freezing in here!). I was also kind of hoping it would take away from the utter mall-punkiness of this outfit. I was trying for FRUiTSy vibes but in small town Wisconsin that sort of thing just doesn't convey to ANYONE, today's example: "OMG U LUK HELLA EMO".

I mean really? And that wasn't even a dramatization, this girl actually said HELLA.

Here's that little craft update I promised you guys!

Starting off with my oversize bowtie belt~

100% inspired by Tabuchi's, even though mine is a lot smaller in comparison and more bow-like than knot-like, oh well! It ties in the front just like a regular bow tie! Pretty cool if I do say so myself ;)

And my newly tie dyed socks! I bought some Dylon the other day and mixed up a small batch of it to do these. This was my first time using actual dye for tie dye, I love how the colors turned out!

And since we're on the subject of DIYs, right now I'm putting the finishing touches on yet another peter pan collar and I'm attempting to hem a velvet dress (it's been a pain so far!). It probably doesn't help that I suck at hand sewing >.<

Since I'm on break the only other thing I plan on doing besides sewing is catching up on some of my favorite mangas! I honestly haven't picked one up in months! I think it has something to do with NANA being on hiatus (which STILL makes me want to cry T_T). I only just started reading the Gals! series, even though it's pretty old I've never bothered taking a look. So far, so good. The storylines are alright but I'd have to say my favorite part is seeing all of Ran's (the main character) different outfits! *.*
