This month's ☺on my radar☺ is gonna be dedicated to my favorite indie makeup finds from this summer! Even though it's technically fall, I've had this post sitting in my drafts f o r e v e r, so I figure I'd better get it posted now or it'll never happen! If you're not interested in hearing me blather on about purple lipstick and glittery nail polish, then I think you'd better skip this post! 0.~ It's gonna be a long one...
✰Fierce Magenta Lipstick✰
I first found out about Fierce Magenta last spring while I was creeping through Ari's etsy favorites, and immediately went all googly-eyed over their shop, which is fully stocked with super vibrant lipsticks in every shade imaginable! I've been on the hunt for the perfect purple and teal lipsticks ever since I missed out on OCC's Chlorophyll and Belladonna Lip Tars last year (I'm still crying about this btw), so when I saw these two shades for sale in their shop I thought they looked similar and might be worth a try.
Here's what they look like swatched on my arm (one swipe!) and swatched on the lips:
These lipsticks have a really nice consistency (not too slippery, but also not thick or gloopy), excellent pigmentation, and no weird smell or taste to them. That being said, I'm gonna review the two shades separately, just because I had a much different experience with one over the other.
Aurora (green blue): This one is my favorite out of the two! In the listing they describe the color as being a teal green, but it definitely leans more on the blue side. The lipstick itself applies like an absolute dream and is very opaque! I never have any problems with this one settling into the lines on my lips or separating. This color even lasted through a long day of errand running in the muggy summer heat (I walk everywhere, so I was totally expecting this stuff to melt right off my face!) but it stuck on right through 'til the afternoon when I got home.
Purple Iris (pinkish purple): Purple Iris is literally the perfect shade of purple! I was hoping it would wear as nicely as Aurora does, but unfortunately the formula with this one is really difficult to work with. Despite being the same consistency as Aurora, this one applies patchy (you can see in the swatch photo that my natural lip color is showing through in some areas), and bleeds quite a bit! I'm still determined to get my money's worth and make it work somehow. I think I'll try wearing it with a lip liner or maybe with another purple-ish lipstick and see how that pans out.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with my order. Even though Purple Iris was a bit of a disappointment I think it can be fixed with the help of another lipstick or lip liner. For the price ($6 USD for a small tube stick and $8 USD for a full-size lipstick) and quality (super bright color) I'd say they're definitely worth checking out!
✰Mentality Nail Polish✰
My obsession with all things holographic has finally made its way into my makeup bag! In a recent search for an affordable holographic nail polish (as in something that's not going to cost me upwards of $20) I ended up finding (and purchasing) this holographic top coat from Mentality Nail Polish on etsy. I just have to say that I am seriously so in love with this stuff! It's not only super cheap ($7 USD for a full-size bottle & ~free shipping~) but it's also really versatile; just two coats of this will transform any boring old nail polish into a holographic rainbow. Wear-wise, it stays on forever and doesn't chip or peel too easily. It also dries really quickly in between coats (which is great for impatient nail painters like me!) I definitely got my money's worth with this one. ^_^ If you're interested in trying Mentality out for yourself, you can find their whole range of holographic nail polishes here.
Whew, so that's what I've been into lately, beauty-wise. If you've actually read through this entire post, thank you so much! And let me know if you'd like to see more posts like this. I always find myself wanting to blog about make up, but I rarely do because I don't think I'm enough of an ~expert~ on it or whatever. Let me know what you think! ♡
